|The Hardest Rains|
Some of the fiercest and most unusual weather in the Solar System occurs where you might least expect it. Deep inside the planets Uranus and Neptune, hail made of diamond — the hardest rain — falls toward the center of these planets. And Neptune is home to the strongest winds ever observed, a blazing 600 m/s (1340 mph) near the large turbulent vortex of the Great Dark Spot. Not bad for a planet over 30 times further from the Sun than Earth. But how can a cold dark planet produce such extreme weather?
